Tsuchitori started his music career as a percussionist and free improviser in the 1970s.
Since then, he has played with Milford Graves, Derek Bailey, Steve Lacy and other world
musicians. In 1976 he started work with Peter Brook's international theater group as a
leading musician, and worked on various projects including 'The Mahabharata', 'Tempest'
'Hamlet' etc. Peter Brook is perhaps best known as a film director - in particular "Meetings
With Remarkable Men". Tsuchitori has also done extensive research on the world's ethnic
music and dance, especially Asian and African. In the 1980s he presented three Japanese
archeological music works (re-issued by Victor on CD), "Dōtaku: Ancient Japanese Bronze
Bells From Yayoi Period (BC400-AD 250)", "Sanukaito: Stone Sounds Of The Paleolithic Era
In Japan ", and " Jōmonko; Pottery Drums Of Jōmon Period (BC3000-BC 2500) ". In 2008,
Victor Records (in cooperation with the Japan Traditional Cultures Foundation) made these
recordings available on CD for the first time.
